Averrhoa bilimbi

Bilimbi is an amazing fruit,native to Moluccas,Indonesia.It is just like a small cucumber but with four sides as star fruit.It is very popular in Singapore,Indonesia,and Malaysia.It skin's is glossy and thin,when unripe the appearance of fruit is green and crispy.
It's color turn yellow when ripe.The flesh of fruit is very acidic,juicy and green.The tree gives hundred of fruit over a long season when mature.

Uses of Averroha bilimbi


  1. Served with rice and beans
  2. Ripe fruit are added to curries in far East
  3. Used in place of mango to make chutney
  4. In cooking,fruit often used in combination with sweet tamarind to reduce the acidity of fruit.
  5. The fruit juice contain high concentration of oxalic acid and used for bleaching and cleaning.
